Youth Engagement in Education and Training
We seek your assistance in providing information that ensures all aspects of Year 10 Transition Planning are provided to us by Friday 15th November. Please share this information with all relevant staff.
For all schools with YEAR 10 - TRANSITION (PATHWAYS) PLANNING
1.1. Pathways planning
All Year 10 students must be given access to career and pathways information and supported through a thorough Pathways planning process. This process is to be determined and developed at the school level.
1.2. Preparing the student form
The school can make a copy of the 2024 Microsoft or Google Form template. This form will need to be copied and distributed to the Year 10 cohort from the CET YEET Data request documentation page.
1.3. Completing the form
Students must be supported to access and complete the Form by entering details of their Transition Plan. Schools must take steps to ensure all students complete this process. In the case of a student who is absent from school, effort should be taken to attempt to contact and consult with the student. The form can be lodged on their behalf by a teacher.
1.4. Principal’s approval
The Principal, or appropriate delegate, will consider the collated data and approve each student’s Transition Plan if they are satisfied that:
the student has had ample opportunity and support to consider carefully and choose an appropriate intended pathway.
all data fields for the student are complete
In the case where a student Transition Plan is not approved, the Principal or delegate should revisit the Pathways Planning process with the student and update the Transition Plan form before submission.
1.5. Transition Statement
Once all required steps in the creation of the Transition Plan are complete and the Principal has approved the plan, the student will be issued with a Transition Statement. This is done by the following appearing on the Year 10 End of Year Report.
The wording of the Transition Statement must be as follows:
“<Insert student full name> has submitted a plan for post-Year 10 education and training; and is therefore issued with this Transition Statement under Section 90 of the Education Act 2016.”
1.6. Collating and merging data
Extract the Form data and merge with student demographic data into the Student Transition Plan Template found on the CET YEET Data request documentation page.
1.7. Failure to submit a Transition Plan
If the school is having difficulty engaging a student in the Transition Planning process, the school should issue the Year 10 Student Alert letter to inform parents of the implications of failing to lodge a Transition Plan. If, despite all efforts by the school, a student has not submitted a Transition Plan by the time the End of Year Report is issued, the following statement should be included on the report: “<Insert student full name> has not submitted a plan for post-Year 10 education and training as required by the Education Act 2016. Please contact the college as a matter of urgency to arrange submission of a Transition Plan.”
