YEAR 10 STUDENT ALERT

HAVE YOU COMPLETED YOUR TRANSITION PLAN?

Dear Student,

As you are aware, the Education Act 2016 requires you, in normal circumstances, to stay actively engaged in full time education and training until you either finish Year 12, achieve a Certificate III qualification or reach the new minimum school leaving age of 18 – whichever occurs first.

During Year 10 (and most likely earlier) you will have been thinking about, researching and taking advice on the steps or pathways to your preferred career. The Education Act requires you as a Year 10 student to provide your Principal with full details of your more immediate plans to move into senior secondary studies or other further education or training in the next couple of years.

As your Principal, I now formally advise you that I must receive your Transition Plan by the date I have nominated for all Year 10 students at the College.  It is important for you to know that the Education Act places strict responsibility on yourself as well as your parents / guardians to ensure that your Transition Plan is completed and submitted to me. There can be significant consequences under the Act for failure to submit a Plan.

Once submitted, your Transition Plan will be reviewed by the College to see that it complies with the requirements of the Education Act by providing details of an appropriate pathway as well as identifying where you intend to enrol for senior secondary studies or other further education or training.

If your Transition Plan gets formal approval from me, a short Transition Statement will appear at the end of your final Year 10 Report. Your Transition Plan then becomes your Approved Learning Program (ALP) for the following two years.

Your ALP will be closely monitored by your post Year 10 education or training provider(s) to ensure your full time participation in the Program.

Wishing you well in the production of your Transition Plan. Remember that it must be submitted to me by the specified date.

Yours sincerely,

PRINCIPAL
